A quote that truly sums up Brenda MacKenzie as the exceptional real estate professional and the extraordinary human being she is. Her clients have described her as knowledgeable, patient, honest, straightforward, reassuring and working from a place of deep kindness, enthusiasm, and humour. She is a knowledgeable, enthusiastic advocate for her clients as they navigate and transition through the various stages of their lives.

Brenda found real estate as a career path when a friend suggested that it would be a perfect way for her to make a living while doing what she loves most – connecting with people and learning their stories. She trusted that advice and left her job to get a real estate license. In 1994, Brenda was awarded the prestigious Fellow of the Real Estate Institute of Canada designation (FRI) which recognizes that she had acquired advanced skills and knowledge and met nationally-recognized business and ethical standards.

In 2018 she celebrates 30 years in the industry. To her, it is much more than a career; it’s a way to help people write their next chapter, much like that friend did for her.

In addition to creating success in real estate, Brenda has a special interest in social issues such as support programs for people who are homeless; affordable housing initiatives such as co-housing and those challenges and opportunities affecting the aging population. In 2014 she became a certified Elder Planning Counsellor. She is currently a member of the Citizen Engagement Committee for the CARP/Dalhousie Aging at Home project as well as the Aging 2.0 Nova Scotia Chapter which supports innovators that are focused on improving the aging experience. In 2014 she achieved her certification as an Elder Planning Counsellor, The EPC™ designation is designed to provide education for professionals working with clients over 55, in many different fields including financial planning, insurance, accounting, funeral planning, social work and nursing.

In 2011 she created “A Home for Everyone” project along with her colleagues which as of 2018 has awarded more than $200,000 to local charities working to end homelessness in the community.

She is a member of PETA, a supporter of WWF’s global conservation efforts and is passionate about creating a better world through kindness and philanthropy. In early 2018 she completed the Purpose Led Business School, a program to assist business owners in staying aligned with their purpose and the role we all can play in increasing our impact in the community beyond the boundaries of standard measures of business success.

She has served on various boards and committees including the Epilepsy Association of Nova Scotia, the Kidney Foundation and the Barrington Street Steering Committee and has also been involved in industry groups including sitting on the Professional Standards Committee with the Nova Scotia Real Estate Association and on the Board of Directors for the Real Estate Institute of Canada’s local chapter.

In her spare time she loves spending time with her family and friends, taking care of her own home through renovation, design and decorating projects as well as getting her hands in the earth of her gardens. She loves animals (especially her dog Jaxson), as much as her food and wine and is particularly drawn to the beautiful landscapes of Prince Edward Island.
